Lighter Choices for Sunny Weather.

The clocks may have gone forward, but it’s not just the evenings that are getting lighter: our meals are too! With summer on its way, now’s a great time to put away the comfort food and get creative with seasonal salads and fresh fruit and vegetables.

While it’s perfectly possible to buy fruits and veggies all year round, there’s nothing like the freshness and flavour you get from adding seasonal, UK-grown produce to your diet. You’ll even make a ‘green’ difference by eliminating food miles.

Why not replace winter warmers (like roast potatoes) for seasonal vegetables like Cauliflower and Broccoli? For salad lovers, spring onions and peppery rocket are ready for picking in May. If you’re a pudding person, seasonal Rhubarb makes a mouth-watering crumble!

Replacing red meat for white often offers lighter options too: with poultry and seafood a healthy addition to any spring or summertime salad.

And, while you may feel less hungry as temperatures rise, it’s doubly important to keep drinking. It is recommended to drink 6 to 8 glasses of fluid a day . Water, lower fat milk and sugar-free drinks all count, of course, but why not bring out the blender? May’s seasonal fruits are perfect for great-tasting juices and smoothies.
